Information Session For Owners Of Small Flocks And Pet Birds, Canada

Owners of small or backyard flocks of birds are invited to attend a free information session on how to help prevent and detect bird diseases, such as avian influenza. The session is being hosted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Province of Nova Scotia. Area bird owners and the general public are welcome to drop in from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

New Report Underscores Need For Congressional Action To Limit Antibiotic Use In Animal Agriculture

A new report by the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production (http://www.pcifap.org) documents the perils of antibiotic use in factory farms and the many strains of antibiotic-resistant E-Coli, Salmonella, Camphylobacter, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and other bacteria that these facilities cause. Swim The Channel For Diabetes UK

Diabetes UK is calling on all enthusiastic swimmers to take part in this year's relay race across the English Channel. Last August, four teams of six spirited swimmers tackled the English Channel in a relay race, raising £8,000 for Diabetes UK. The swimmers took it in turns to swim for an hour each between Dover and Cap Gris Nez in France, taking an average of 15 hours all together.

Physically Active People Age More Slowly

A new study on twins by researchers in the UK showed that people who are physically active in their leisure time aged more slowly than their more sedentary counterparts.The study is published in the 28th January issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, and is the work of Dr Lynn F Cherkas, of King's College London, and colleagues.

Support from the U.S. government helped Radhakrishna Foodland Pvt. Ltd. and the Nandani Farmer Cooperative sign an agreement establishing Nandani Farmer Cooperative as the primary supplier for Foodland, increasing profits for farmers and providing a reliable supply of quality fresh produce for Foodland.Nandani and Foodland were brought together by the Growth Oriented Micro-enterprise Development program, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
