Minister Ritz Statement On USDA Decision To Lift Heightened Inspection Of Canadian Meat Exports

The Government of Canada is pleased that the United States Department of Agriculture is returning to standard testing levels for Canadian beef, pork and poultry products. Thanks to the cooperation between the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and USDA officials, our American counterparts have confirmed that special testing measures are no longer necessary.

Inspire Initiates Phase 3 Trial Of Epinastine Nasal Spray For Allergic Rhinitis

Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISPH) announced the initiation of a Phase 3 clinical trial to evaluate epinastine nasal spray for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis. This Phase 3 clinical trial is a 14-day randomized, double-blind comparison of two concentrations of epinastine (0.1% and 0.15%) at two different spray volumes to placebo in approximately 750 subjects who have a documented history of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) to mountain cedar pollen.

Animal Insulin Still Available, Says Wockhardt UK

People with diabetes will still have access to animal insulin once Novo Nordisk withdraws its pork (porcine) insulins this December.Wockhardt UK says it will continue to supply Hypurin porcine and bovine insulin, giving people with diabetes a much-needed choice of treatment.Cathy Moulton, Diabetes UK care advisor , maintains that it is important for people with diabetes to have a choice about their treatment.

More Boys Than Girls Born In Warmer Years, UK

Researchers investigating potential impact of temperature on gender, have shown that consecutive warm years can result in more men being born than women. Their findings are published yesterday in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters.The researchers analysed the relationship between male-female sex ratios and reconstructed average temperatures.

Could A Fuel Cell That Runs On Glucose Save The Planet?

A new type of fuel cell powered with glucose derived from biomass is described in the latest issue of the Inderscience Publication International Journal of Global Energy Issues. The experimental device works by using sunlight to convert the glucose into hydrogen to power the cell, which produces several hundred millivolts.

Moffitt Seeking Participants For Green Tea Study

Moffitt Cancer Center is looking to recruit and treat 240 men and evaluate safety and effectiveness of Polyphenon E, a drug developed from green tea, in preventing the progression of early signs of prostate cancer. The goal is to also assess if Polyphenon E reduces urinary tract symptoms that men experience with this condition. In July, a team of physicians and scientists, led by Nagi Kumar, Ph.D.

Stored Nuclear Waste May End Up In The Columbia River, Washington State

Millions of gallons of hazardous waste resulting from the nation's nuclear weapons program lie in a remote location in southeastern Washington state called Hanford. Beneath this desert landscape about two million curies of radioactivity and hundreds of thousands of tons of chemicals are captured within the stratified vadose zone below which gives rise to complex subsurface flow paths. These paths create uncertainties about where the contaminants go and what happens to them.
