For several years now medical experts from the University of Bonn have been clocking up largely positive experience with what is known as medihoney. Brain Pacemaker: UCLA Develops Unique Nerve-stimulation Epilepsy Treatment

A unique nerve-stimulation treatment for epilepsy developed at UCLA offers a potential new alternative for tens of thousands of individuals unable to control their seizures with medication and ineligible for surgery. A study published in the July edition of the peer-reviewed journal Epilepsia reports that four of seven subjects who used an external stimulator for at least three months in a pilot human clinical trial enjoyed a 50 percent or better reduction in seizure frequency.

The Dangers Of Unregulated Chinese Herbal Therapy Highlighted By Doctors

Chris Laing, Sally Hamour (Whittington Hospital, London, UK), and colleagues describe the diagnosis and treatment of a 30 year-old Chinese man who was referred to their kidney clinic in July 2003 after passing blood in his urine. The patient had been taking the Chinese herb Longdan Xieganwan to 'enhance' his liver for at least 5 years. The doctors found that the patient had a bladder tumour, which they surgically removed.

Dogs Itching To Try Homeopathic Remedies

Dogs with a common allergic skin disease, canine atopic dermatitis, will be taking part in a clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of homeopathic remedies as conventional meets complementary at Bristol University's School of Veterinary Science.Dr Peter Hill, Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Dermatology at Bristol's Vet School is embarking on the trial that aims to settle some of the arguments about the practice of homeopathy.

EMEA Public Statement On Herbal Medicinal Products Containing Cimicifugae Racemosae Rhizoma (Black Cohosh, Root)

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) and the Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) have been made aware of a number of case reports of hepatotoxicity (liver injuries) in patients using Cimicifugae racemosae rhizoma (Black Cohosh, root). Following review of all available data, the HMPC considered that there is a potential connection between herbal medicinal products containing Cimicifugae racemosae rhizoma (Black Cohosh, root) and hepatotoxicity.
